Award winning Chef and author Michael O’Meara joins us fresh from his outstanding success with his first publication Sea Gastronomy. Michael will cook up some seafood specials, talk us through the importance of sourcing and using local fish, including some less well known types, and will finish off the session with a book signing for anyone wishing to purchase Sea Gastronomy.
Born in Waterford, Michael O’Meara spent much of his childhood in Sligo and his early love of food was nurtured by his mother and grandmother, both of whom were superb cooks. When he was 16, Michael enrolled in the professional chef training course at GMIT and he subsequently worked at Dromoland Castle and Michelin-starred restaurants in Bordeaux, It was in May 2000 that Oscar’s Seafood Bistro opened its doors and the restaurant has gone on to win many national accolades for super dining experiences.
Today is Michael’s first visit to the Connemara Mussel Festival and we applaud his recent success with his debut seafood text – ‘Sea Gastronomy’ published by Connemara based Artisan House.
