Thirteen years ago Jess Murphy moved to Ireland, first Dublin and then Galway. Since opening Kai on Sea Rd, Jess with her husband David and the team have won numerous awards including Best Chef and Best Restaurant in Connaught on numerous occasions. Today is her first visit to the Connemara Mussel Festival and whatever she cooks for us you can be sure it will be fun, full of goodness, locally sourced and innovative. No shortcuts for this chef, as the McKenna Guide so appropriately describe her, Jess is ‘quietly bolshie, brash, and brilliant’.

Jessica Murphy

Jess Murphy may be a New Zealander by birth but her passion and love of all good food, particularly the food offering from the West of Ireland seems to challenge her on a daily basis to serve up yummy, tasty nutritional menu items that have people queuing for a table in KAI any day of the week.

Located on Sea Rd the restaurant has won numerous accolades and awards and Jess has been voted Best Chef in Connaught for the last two years at the Irish Restaurant Awards, no mean feat when you consider the talent in the West of Ireland.

Today is her first visit to the Connemara Mussel Festival but she is no stranger to this part of our region – she can often be found walking a beach or strolling through Roundstone on a day off. This lady has taken the West to her heart and we are in no rush to release her back to New Zealand!
