Sugar Crush – Kid’s Cooking Workshops

Everyone has heard how sugar can be found in most foods today, however, we all need a little sweetness in our diet to maintain a healthy balance. GMIT Lecturers Jacinta and Maria will show kids how to whip up some treats without the need for any major sugar rush. And the kids get to keep their chefs hats and aprons!

Jacinta Dalton – College of Tourism and Arts, GMIT

Jacinta is a member of Faculty at The College of Tourism & Arts, GMIT since 2010 and lectures in Food & Beverage operations and marketing. Prior to joining GMIT, Jacinta worked as a freelance mentor to the food and hospitality sectors and has developed and delivered a number of training programmes for Fáilte Ireland. Jacinta is one of eight appointed food ambassadors for The Wild Atlantic Way, this role is peer nominated and appointed by Fáilte Ireland. The role recognises “individuals who actively influence and shape the future of food tourism in their regions”. (Fáilte Ireland, 2013). In 2011 Jacinta was co-founder of The FoodieForum ( – an interactive, collaborative, educational showcase of Irish craft produce, designed to create a networking platform for food producers, chefs, restaurateurs and members of the public who have a strong interest in food education and the support and promotion of local food producers and food businesses. Jacinta continues to have close links with industry and is a member of the European Region of Gastronomy Steering Committee in Galway.



Maria Conboy – College of Tourism and Arts, GMIT

Maria is a member of Faculty at The College of Tourism and Arts in GMIT. She lectures in all aspects of culinary arts and particularly enjoys pastry. During her time in GMIT she has mentored students for national and international competitions and has undertaken stages with Chapter One, Michelin star restaurant in Dublin.
